More than robots. A great variety of tasks.

Of course the robot is important, but FIRST Tech Challenge also consists of numerous other interesting tasks. This includes the documentation of the building progress in the engineering notebook, piloting the robot during the competition or representing the team to the public (Outreach). Everyone is needed to make a team succeed.

"FIRST is more than robots. The robots are a vehicle for students to learn important life skills. Kids often come in not knowing what to expect – of the program nor of themselves. They leave, even after the first season, with a vision, with confidence and with a sense that they can create their own future."
Dean Kamen

"This isn‘t a robot."

Robots - Teamwork - Competition. How does that go together?

During the construction of the robot it's important not to strictly focus on one single idea right from the beginning. Instead progress happens in a lot of small steps. The robot may be built from materials like wood, aluminum, acrylic glass but also 3D printed parts. Like the construction of the robot the competition is designed for teamwork. Teamwork and criticism competences are essential here. Every year the participants of FTC are given a new task. More information is in the section tasks.
